SOCIAL EVENTS Each year at the end of January, SVAB hold a ‘Winter’s Day Out’ to which all visually impaired people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are welcome. The event is normally held at the Pro-Star Football Stadium, Shrewsbury. 150 or so manage to come each year. Coffee is served on arrival followed by a morning entertainment, often something musical, and then a buffet lunch is served. The afternoon starts with a second entertainment, which might be a local celebrity with an interesting topic or tales to tell! Tickets for the event are numbered and the day ends with a raffle and tea. SVAB also holds other Special Events at other times of the year. These have included trips on the Bridgnorth to Bewdley Severn Valley Railway, visits to Hodnet Gardens, and a cruise on the SS Balmoral at Llandudno. A week-long Annual Holiday is also organised in the late summer or early autumn, held at The Belmont Hotel, Llandudno. The hotel is managed by The Royal Blind Society and has a talking lift, talking clocks etc and is located opposite the pier with easy access to the Victorian arcades and shops there. Entertainment is provided in the evening and the holiday party is escorted and looked after by volunteers. Coach travel to and from Shropshire is provided free for our holidaymakers. Details for all these events are advertised on the local Talking Newspapers. |
